The story follows a young woman named Cheong Shim, who after throwing herself into the sea of Indangsu, wakes up in the center of a lazy dragon's treasure hoard! With no other options, she makes use of her culinary talents to convince him into sparing her life, but is the food truly all that keeps him from letting her go...?

Relation to The Greatest Estate Developer[]

Both series are written by the same author and take place in the same universe. While one does not need to read one series in order to understand the other, the lasting effects of I Became the Dragon King's Chef have been occasionally seen within The Greatest Estate Developer.

  • Interdimensional Travel: Cheong Shim is not originally from the same universe as the dragon. She was transported there after falling into the sea, similarly to how Suho Kim was transported during his sleep. The dragon king is also capable of using magic in order to travel through dimensions at will, making the concept an extremely rare but not impossible occurrence.
  • Dragon Commandments: After his marriage to Cheong Shim, a human, the dragon king Berkis enacted the Dragon Commandments. These forbid dragons from breaking a contract with a human and from terrorizing other races, among other things. These rules have been shown directly impacting Solitas in his search for love.
  • Elves: The elven race appears in both series and are consistent with their love of plants and carnivorous diets. However, the elves shown in I Became the Dragon King's Chef do not appear to be combatants, indicating that the cultural norms enforced on elves (such as woman being fighters and men tending housework) are only common within individual tribes rather than as a collective race.
  • Easter Egg: In Episode 58 and Chapter 121 of The Greatest Estate Developer, Marbella Frontera is seen advertising a copy of I Became the Dragon King's Chef as a legendary cookbook, claiming that the book was found among Lupellan's belongings.
  • Mermaids: The mermaids race appears in both series and are consistent with their muscly appearance. Even though they almost didn't appeared.
