A concentrated population! An increase in their purchasing power! The creation of a business district! Expansion of tax revenues!
— Lloyd Frontera
The Honeypot Apartment Blocks were a project devised by Lloyd Frontera in order to house the refugees displaced by the Monster Domino. Each building is labeled with a number such as 101 or 102.
They are tall, multileveled apartment buildings where each unit only contains a bedroom and living space. Heating to each unit is provided through a series of pipes connected to a main boiler room, where steam is produced and sent to the radiators located in each unit. There is a central courtyard containing a well, canteen, communal bathroom, and other amenities.
Conception[]
Due to the Monster Domino caused by the interference of Asfahan, numerous estates bordering the wilderness were attacked and overrun by swarms of locusts and other monsters. Refugees from these areas were faced with a limited number of options: remaining in their land to perish, traveling north towards the sea, south towards an entirely different country, or directly west towards either the Frontera Barony or Lacona Viscounty. Due to the rejection of the Laconas, thousands of displaced refugees arrived at the Frontera Estate seeking shelter and food within a short period of time.
In order to house such a large influx of people, Lloyd Frontera devised the Honeypot Apartments with inspiration from the apartment buildings of South Korea and the Fujian tulou of southeastern China. His motivations for such a project were initially worried to be impure, selfishly thinking of the tax revenue that he would be able to collect from such a large number of citizens, though Lloyd's steadfast determination and personal sympathy for those without a home made his true dedication undeniably clear during the project's planning stages.
Construction[]
Site preparations for the two buildings were overseen by Bayern while the details of their blueprints were still being worked on. After perfecting his plans and ensuring that the buildings would withstand time and wear, Lloyd Frontera contacted Corgidus and his craftsmen for the construction of a cement mixer truck powered by Ppodong. The rebars used in the formwork was taken care of by the orcs of the Sand and Steel Tribe. Once the base structure grew tall enough, Bibeong was tasked with transporting materials akin to a crane. Lloyd remained at the build sites in order to teach everyone their tasks and ensure that they were comfortable with working before tasking Bayern to oversee the project.
During the construction of the outer walls, Lloyd continued to think about how to achieve full, insulated heating for all floors of the building as the central boiler was unable to carry heat to the top floors. His brainstorming continued until he recalled the existence of the Elensia Tree, whose sap was the greatest insulator their world had to offer. He and his knight, Javier Asrahan, set off to the Everglow Forest in order to retrieve some and ended up forming a business contract with the forest's elves before returning. The elves' unmatched agility and strong discipline led to the apartments' successful construction in time before winter.
Reception[]
The refugees staying in the apartments were overjoyed to have new homes, marveling at the quality of the rations provided and feeling deeply grateful towards Lloyd and the rest of the barony. After having time to settle in, many of the new residents did not wish to continue relying on this charity forever and were instead grateful for the chance to work and earn their living.
Shortly following the completion of blocks 101 and 102, the numerous, admirable efforts achieved by the Frontera Barony were duly recognized and the region was promoted to a county. This relieved the estate from being considered a part of the Cremo County and gave it jurisdiction over smaller, neighboring lands such as the Lacona Viscounty.
