You have always been the kindest and warmest person, more so than anyone else.
—Javier Asrahan
Arcos Frontera is the current count of the Frontera County. He is the husband of Marbella Frontera as well as the father of Lloyd and Julian Frontera.
In the events of Knight of Blood and Iron, he and his wife fall victim to a series of scams and end up committing suicide due to their overwhelming debt.
Appearance[]
Arcos has fair skin, green eyes, and short brown hair, all of which are very similar in color to his son Lloyd. He has faint wrinkles around his mouth and between his brow likely due to age. He is often dressed in formal wear.
Personality[]
Softhearted and kind, Arcos is prone to worry and often quick to tears in times of strong emotion. He has shown himself to be relatively easy to unnerve, as he was fearful of seeing orcs even after being made aware of their arrival and was disgusted by the thought of eating locusts. Despite this, he has shown substantial bravery when his loved ones are at stake, as he has not hesitated to run after his son Lloyd when he is in danger nor did he hesitate to protect his wife Marbella from a horde of locusts.
He is a generous and merciful leader, caring deeply for those around him and struggling to be cruel even to those who have wronged him. While a great virtue in the eyes of individuals such as Javier Asrahan, who was taken in by the noble after being orphaned as a child, his kindness and naivety has made him an easy target for deception and have caused him to be both betrayed and defrauded in the past. These incidents have caused him to acknowledge himself as both a foolish lord and an incompetent father, harboring guilt over how his misfortunes harmed his family and how his cowardice kept him from standing up for himself. After witnessing the personal growth and innovation displayed by Lloyd, he has expressed a desire to improve these sides of himself so as to follow the example of his son.
Keeping with this desire, Arcos has potentially adopted a different, more sadistic aspect of his son's personality as well. Following his promotion to a count, he meets with viscount Lacona to negotiate workers and reuses a prior intimidation tactic from Lloyd in order to obtain the most favorable outcome. As the viscount leaves, still visibly shaken from their conversation, Arcos is seen watching his plight with a grin and seems to take great pleasure in his first time bullying someone else.
Relationships[]
Lloyd Frontera[]
Prior to the beginning of The Greatest Estate Developer, Arcos was deeply disapproving of Lloyd's uncouth behavior and even admitted to hating him. He did not seem to express these feelings very outwardly and opted for stern disapproval rather than punishment or anger. Despite this, he still held an immense amount of love for his son and attempted to charge into a collapsing tunnel in order to save him. Nothing is known of Lloyd's original treatment of his father.
Following his son's drastic shift in character, Arcos developed a sense of admiration for Lloyd and began to reexamine his own behavior. He developed a sense of guilt for causing the debt that Lloyd was working so diligently to pay off, resolving to no longer interfere in his affairs with the reasoning that, if he cannot help, the least he can do is not cause any harm. He expresses this guilt once the family's debts are successfully paid off, sobbing that he is sorry for giving Lloyd such a difficult life, and Lloyd only smiles in return by saying that the love he holds for his son is already enough to call him a good father. After being promoted to a count, Arcos is seen crying and internally thanks Lloyd as being directly responsible for their good fortune.
Lloyd is respectful of his father and refers to him as "my Lord". He is often flippant of his parents' concern and overwhelmed by their affection, though is deeply caring of them all the same and has been shown weeping over their deaths in the first Ending Spoiler.
Javier Asrahan[]
Arcos first met Javier when the boy was only five years old, having survived through an entire winter on his own after losing his town and family. Arcos took him in and kindly treated him as if he were his own son. Javier was grateful for this warmth and once expressed the wish to be his knight when he was older. Touched by the sentiment, Arcos later gifted him with a hand-carved wooden sword in return. Javier remains fiercely loyal to the Frontera family and even declined a direct order from the Empress in order to remain as their knight.
Marbella Frontera[]
Arcos and his wife, Marbella, are deeply caring of each other and have never once shown any doubt in their companionship. When confronted by Count Cremo's proposal of marriage between Lloyd and his daughter, Christine, Arcos explained that such a political marriage would be impossible as it requires a great deal of love to vow one's life to another. Marbella is seen smiling alongside him and warmly holding his hand, proclaiming that they should all continue to live with love before the Count leaves.
He appears to be the more emotional of the two, often being shown crying more strongly than her, though the both are equally as loving and concerned for the welfare of their family. They have both consistently voiced opposition to Lloyd's more dangerous plans, have not hesitated to run towards him when he is in danger, and have been quick to embrace him the moment they know he is safe.
Skills[]
- Craftsmanship: Arcos is shown as being skilled with his hands, as he personally carved wooden swords for both Lloyd and Javier. He has also been seen whittling a small wooden statue of Lloyd.
- Swordsmanship: During the invasion of locusts, Arcos is seen wielding a sword.
